Fill a 1 litre plastic milk bottle with water and seal the lid on tight. Place one in the cistern of the toilet, keeping it clear of the flushing mechanism. I litre less each flush will not affect the quality of the flush and will save 1 litre every time! 10 flushes=1 bucket. Been doing this for years!

If the shower is too hot, turn the hot tap down, rather than turning up the cold water.  Also look at how many times you turn the shower tap around... can you have a shower with less water coming out of the nozzle?

Half fill a plastic washing up bowl and soak your hanging baskets in it for half an hour occasionally, or overnight if they are really dry.  This gives them a deep soaking drink using the smallest amount of water, and the same water can be used for many plants.  They will also only need a light watering for a while afterwards.

When shaving, plug the drain and fill the sink with enough water to rinse your razor. A big saving rather than letting the tap run.

Plant a tree in your garden.  It will provide shade for other plants (and lawn) during the heat of the day.

Put the old baby bath in the shower while you wash. Turn off the taps while you lather up, and turn them back on to rinse. Tip the water into 5 L buckets, and store them to flush the toilet: the soapy water keeps the bowl beautifully clean, too! If you want to water your pot plants with shower water, try to only use the initial, soap-free water for that - plants don't like too much soap.

When washing coffee cups or mugs at work pour some detergent and then water into the cup then wash, making sure to turn the tap off. It shouldn't take you 3 litres of water to wash 1 cup or spoon or plate.
